A joint operation involving Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office, the Saxony state prosecutors and the FBI, has led to the siezure of 50,000 Bitcoins believed to be profits ammassed from the piracy of a defunct German-based file-sharing website.
As of writing, two suspects have been identified in the crime bust and the $2.1 billion Bitcoin stash has been voluntarily transfered into a digital wallet controlled by the Federal Criminal Police Office.
Meanwhile, investigation into the criminal activities of the two suspects is currently on-going.
''The case involves allegations of unauthorized commercial exploitation of copyrighted works and subsequent money laundering. No decisions have been made yet regarding cashing in the bitcoins'', German-based digital assets expert Maha Al-Saadi said in a LinkedIn post.
