Nearly three years after what was dubbed “the Bitcoin trial of the Century '' ended in a partial victory for Craig Wright, a new trial has commenced in the UK over Craig's controversial claim to the invention of Bitcoin.
The Crypto Open Patent Alliance(COPA), a group led by the former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, is challenging Craig Wright's claims in a UK high court.
COPA is also asking the court for an injunction to prevent him from claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious inventor of the world's most popular digital asset.
On day one of the trial, which began on Monday afternoon, COPA accused the Australian-born computer scientist of committing “industrial scale” forgeries, and described him as a bully that must be cut down to size.
“We're seeking an injunction that's going to preclude Dr. Wright from doing this ever again,” COPA’s spokesperson told a CoinDesk reporter on Monday.
In his address to the court, Wright's counsel, Lord Anthony Grabiner, argued that the alliance lacked “any direct evidence” to dispute his client's claim to the authorship of the Bitcoin Whitepaper. In addition, he said that there was a strong likelihood that Craig Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto.
The major highlight of the trial on its first day was the admission of Craig Wright's new evidence by presiding Judge James Mellor. This sets the stage for expert opinion and COPA’s cross-examination in the days ahead.
