Key Insights:
NVDA fell sharply on September 14, closing around $212 after approaching the $209 support zone as investors reassessed the pace of AI spending and development.
Nvidia's fundamentals remain powerful. Q2 FY2027 revenue reached $96.22 billion, up 106% year over year, while Data Center revenue jumped 117% to $89 billion.
The technical setup now matters. $209 is the key support zone, $218 marks near-term resistance, $220 is the breakout threshold and $230 is the next major resistance zone.
Nvidia's AI Rally Meets a New Wall of Uncertainty
Nvidia shares fell sharply on Monday as investors weighed a fresh batch of AI-related headlines against the company's blockbuster earnings.
NVDA closed around $212.33, down roughly 2.7% from Friday's $218.29 close, after trading near $209 during the session. The decline came as semiconductor stocks broadly weakened, suggesting that investors were reassessing the wider AI trade rather than simply selling Nvidia on a company-specific problem.
So, what changed?
The market has started asking a more difficult question: how much future AI growth has already been priced into semiconductor stocks?
That question gained urgency as executives and investors debated the pace of frontier-AI development. Reuters reported that Nvidia and other chipmakers came under pressure as concerns about slowing AI development and enormous AI infrastructure spending weighed on sentiment.
Nvidia also faces a separate regulatory headline. Reuters reported that the U.S. Justice Department is examining Nvidia's roughly $17 billion licensing arrangement with AI-chip startup Groq. The investigation focuses on whether the structure could have helped avoid conventional antitrust scrutiny.
That does not mean Nvidia broke antitrust law. The investigation represents regulatory scrutiny, not a finding of wrongdoing.
Strong Earnings Still Support the Long-Term Story
The bearish headlines stand in sharp contrast with Nvidia's latest financial performance.
Nvidia reported $96.22 billion in fiscal Q2 FY2027 revenue, a 106% increase from the same period a year earlier. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share reached $2.22, up 120% year over year. The company's Data Center business produced about $89 billion in revenue, representing 117% annual growth.
Nvidia also expects fiscal Q3 revenue of approximately $108 billion, plus or minus 2%. The forecast excluded Data Center compute revenue from China.
The company continues to return capital to shareholders. Its board authorized an additional $80 billion share-repurchase program, while Nvidia increased its quarterly dividend to $0.25 per share. As of July 26, the company had $99.3 billion of repurchase authorization remaining.
Those numbers make Monday's decline more interesting. Nvidia did not suddenly report weak fundamentals. Instead, the market appears to be reassessing expectations around the next stage of the AI cycle.
NVDA Technical Levels to Watch
The daily chart now gives traders a clear framework.

$209 is the key support zone. NVDA approached this area during Monday's decline, making it the first level bulls need to defend. A decisive close below $209, particularly on expanding volume, would weaken the current consolidation structure.
$218 is near-term resistance. Nvidia needs to reclaim this area to show that buyers are absorbing the recent selling pressure.
$220 is the breakout threshold. A sustained move above $220 would improve short-term momentum and shift attention toward $230.
$230 is the major resistance zone. This area sits below the recent highs and represents a more meaningful test of whether Nvidia can resume its previous advance.
Above that sits the $236.54 52-week high, which becomes the next major upside reference if buyers push through $230.
The 20-day EMA and 100-day SMA can provide useful confirmation. A move above $220 while NVDA holds above its short-term moving averages would strengthen the bullish case. A break below $209 while the stock loses its medium-term moving-average support would signal a deeper pullback.
Volume matters here. A breakout through $220 on heavy volume carries more weight than a low-volume move above the same level.
The Bigger Question for Nvidia
Monday's selloff leaves Nvidia at an important technical crossroads.
The $209 support zone now matters more than another isolated intraday price print. If buyers defend it and push NVDA back above $218 and $220, the stock could regain momentum toward the $230 resistance zone.
If $209 fails on strong volume, the market could shift its attention toward deeper support, including the area around the 200-day moving average.
The fundamental story remains difficult to dismiss. Nvidia continues to produce extraordinary revenue growth, dominate AI accelerators and generate enormous cash flow. Yet extraordinary expectations create a different kind of risk: even excellent results can fail to satisfy investors when the market expects perfection.
For now, NVDA looks caught between those two forces. Powerful fundamentals support the long-term story, while regulatory headlines, AI-safety concerns and valuation expectations are creating short-term friction.
The next decisive move around $209 on the downside or $220 on the upside should tell traders which side is gaining control.
